This work for high voice and piano is a setting of the poem "The Sound from the Opposite View" by composer James Siddons. The poem is printed in a graphic design in which the poem is seen on the left and its mirror-reflection (retrograde) is seen on the right. The music sets the left-side image of the poem to a Recitative, and the right-side reflection to an Aria. All the music is in an Expressionist style reminiscent of the vocal music of Arnold Schoenberg and Pierre Boulez.
The poem is included in the score, and purchase of the score includes permission to reproduce the poem in programs, posters, publicity materials, and visual projections related to the performance, provided the authorship of James Siddons is cited.
