This is a great tune for elementary school band. I actually accompany on piano (or have a student play piano) and teach this to the band by rote. Once they can play it from memory I have them play a solo as is, change it a little or a lot, or completely change it. I emphasize that it is their solo and they cannot make a mistake, anything goes. This gives them a lot of confidence and many start to play really good solos. Give it a try! Blues are great for giving kids confidence in soloing.
