This 3 movement work was inspired by the Surrealist painting of the same name by Max Ernst. It is scored for flute, clarinet, bassoon, one percussionist playing tam, bass drum, sus. cymbal, 4 toms and glockenspiel, one player on marimba; piano, violin, viola, and cello. I like to think in terms of ’soundscapes’ when composing, and the title is meant to be a poetic guide rather than programmatic. Please note that all harmonics are written at sounding pitch using diamond-shaped noteheads.
