And so the moon said to the sun, “I cannot shine and be admired without you.”
The sun replied, “People cannot look at me directly when I shine on my own during the day, but when my light pours though you, is when people truly bear to look at my light and together we help bring light to the world when it is dark.”
The Moon's Sun was inspired by the relationship between the sun and the moon. The sun is represented by the flute and the moon by the clarinet. The best way to approach this piece is by working together to ensure that the piece is realized in the best way possible. The timbres of each instrument have to blend beautifully and performers need to be aware of when to support and to play out. The result is a stunning showcase of how powerful of a combination the flute, clarinet and piano are.
