The tree now has no natural predators. Its genetic history is 380 million years old. The Chinese used it for its medicinal properties and it is still used to-day as a herbal remedy. The form of the music is the Passacaglia: a main theme which recurs, alternating with what Couperin would have called couplets and are variations on the material of the main theme.
