3rd movement of a divertimento (see programme notes on Aria). The theme at E is derived from a disused Victorian "school carmen" (a rather solemn, hymn-like tune, in common time and with latin text). The 'Grand Waltz' idea from Victorian/Edwardian musical theatre is in evidence as well as a hint of humorous educational merry-go-round. DS al coda doesn't prevent a second hearing from E on playback!
