In common with so many people around the world, I am appalled and horrified by what has happened in Ukraine following the unprovoked attack by Russia on 24th February 2022. The terrible events that have driven millions from their homes, killed thousands, and destroyed whole cities seem far beyond the power of words. Many years ago, I composed an elegy for solo violin that echoed the music of central Europe. I have transposed it for the clarinet and retitled it as a gesture of solidarity with the people of Ukraine and the countless victims of this tragic war.
