This poem is actually taken from two parts of a longer poem by Alfred Tennyson. I found it in a mostly schmarmy Christmas book and liked the poem very much. The last verse seemed so different from the first two, I was wondering what Tennyson was up to, but it turns out that the editor of the Christmas book took snippets from two poems and put them together. The first three stanzas are contiguous, the last from much later in the poem. Still, I liked the setting I had written and offer it here for your use and enjoyment.

The singer you hear in the recording is a good friend, Don Sikkema who was kind enough to record this for me some time ago.
