The Bagpipers’ Carol, in Italian "Canzone Di Zampognari" is a Neapolitan Folksong which has the title "Quando Nascette Ninno".

For many centuries, during the period before Christmas, mountain shepherds have descended on the cities in Southern Italy - singing and playing pastoral music such as carols. They accompany each other on the Ciaramella, a small shawm, and the Zampogna, a large bagpipe which has two drones and two chanters.

The first line of the tune is " The night the babe was born".

Please also note the similarity between Handels’ "He shall feed his flock"

For those who wish to use a bagpipe with the orchestra please listen to the Mp3.

Also arranged for Concert Windband.
