Commentary by Left Brain and Right Brain. RB: "In December 1998 and January 1999, my wife Denise & I explored awesome Chile, Uruguay and Argentina. My Tango Nostlgico recalls a moonlit January summer evening on el Ro de la Plata, en route from Montevideo to Buenos Aires. We were thrilled to visit these beautiful, friendly and quasi-European countries in southern South America. Yet, we also longed for home after so much time, so far away. Now I yearn for a delicious churrasco and that rich caramelized dulce de leche ice cream." LB: "My Tango Nostlgico is a 5-minute study of idealized Argentine dance rhythms, melded with sonata form: exposition of 2 themes, development, reverse recapitulation, and coda. It has fine melodies, many rhythmic and harmonic twists, plus counterpoint. Although playable on clarinet or bandonen, its text and the relative dearth of talking clarinets make this music best suited for a sonorous soprano voice. Moreover, it is a tango in name and character, but a sonata allegro in form and content." RB: "Good point, but I think of it as a sonata in tango form."
