SyntPhonies were originally composed and recorded on synthesizers in 1978-81 as a homage to Baroque music. It's a cycle of small counterpoint pieces - inventions, sinfonias, canons. These "classical" and tonal pieces, sharply rhythmically and melodically contoured, are connected by timbral electronic interludes, which create something like "fog", information noise and contrast to previous ones. The work was composed on the base of analysis of Bach music, which gave some characteristic melodic, rhythmic and harmonic elements. These were taken as a free inspiration for neo-baroque contemporary music - not exactly in Bach's style; much more it's Bach seen from 20th century. There were used all counterpoint techniques - inversions, retrogrades, augmentations, diminutions, canons in various intervals, imitations, voice permutations etc. After the first part (Intrade) follow Interlude 1 ("water boiling"), Counterpoint 1 (two-voice invention), Interlude 2 with sharp metallic spectra, Air 1 (with nostalgic melody), noisy Interlude 3, Counterpoint 2 (three-voice invention), "wooden" Interlude 4, Canon, Interlude 5 ("cosmic" beeping), Air 2 (strict inversion of Air 1 with different instrumentation - it's something like "a reflection in a crooked mirror"), Interlude 6 (electronic strings chords) and final Gigue (where some of the previous themes are implanted in synthesis). This is four hands piano version of Intrade.
