The second movement starts with a reference to the trumpet tune at the beginning of the first movement of the symphony, but develops away from this. The music is largely simple and fairly tranquil. Later in the movement I have used the tune that was the theme tune to my music for the Barchester Chronicles. I have been meaning to use this for some time, and here the opportunity seemed exactly right.
