This symphony is in 4/4 time throughout. It starts at crotchet = 40 and every bar is fractionally faster than its predecessor until it reaches a very fast tempo at the end. Think of it as an accelerating train journey with ever changing scenery, with a motto theme linking the various sections together, which is heard prominently both at the beginning and the end of the symphony
