I wanted my first symphony to be a choral symphony and I can't think of a text that means more to me personally than Psalm 34. After my mother Anna was hospitalized with a brain tumor she remained in a coma for about 17 days. An attending nurse told me that the sense of hearing in a comatose patient can remain intact so I began reading scripture passages to her. Psalm 34 quickly became one of my favorites for the comfort and hope it gives. In Symphony No.1 - Part 1 - "O Magnify the Lord With Me" the SATB choir sings verses 1-3. I've also chosen a smaller orchestra to provide a more intimate setting for these verses.
