Some of my work will have to live with the fact that they have something Mexican in their genes. My First Symphony is one of them, where it shows in the third movement. Hopefully, the contrast will not be too violent after the slow and soulful second movement, when confronted with this �Fiesta mexicana.� Some critics might be ready to regard me as �Mexicanist� in the sense of adding Mexican elements just as a merely touristy curiosity. As a matter of fact, I have lived a long time in Mexico, and so, its music is somehow ingrained in me, and therefore, the expression of it is sincere. Even with a strictly classical symphonic orchestra one can have fun.
