The Enigma Waltz is the 3rd movement of my Serenade Symphony, comprising two waltz sections with a 'chorale' section in between. As with most of my other music, this is contrapuntally quite rich and contains a fair bit of hemiola, so it's definitely not a waltz one would be able to dance to.
The contrasting moods and tonalities are unified through the 'enigma': a series of notes that appear ubiquitously throughout the movement in different keys and various harmonic and rhythmic configurations.
This score is incomplete in that it has all the notes but is missing most of the dynamics and some articulation/phrasing markings. The completed version will go up soon. The attached mp3 is basically a recording of midi playback (on a computer with a better soundcard) with several tempo nuances added.
