Imagine the scene: a Viking longboat rows quietly through the mist towards the Orkney Islands in the Far North of Scotland. As it approaches, we hear the bells of St Magnus Cathedral. Inside the Cathedral, the monks are devoutly chanting (this section uses plainchant found in the Cathedral manuscripts). Abruptly, the Vikings arrive in the cathedral and the monk's chanting is violently disrupted, but they chant on! Listen carefully at the end.. although it may seem like the Vikings won, the monks ring on.
This score is for 7 ringers to ring handbells D4 to A6: One ringer mallets all the bass clef bells and also plays the suspended cymbal.
