Following the overwhelming success of my composition, Music for Ten Trumpets, I decided to create a Suite for Ten Trumpets as a homage to my favorite composers: Shostakovich, Nielsen, Ives, Hindemith, and Peter Schickele. While it's an excellent piece, it requires a skilled trumpet ensemble with access to 2 piccolo trumpets, an E-flat trumpet, a D-Trumpet, 2 C Trumpets, 2 B-flat Trumpets, and 2 Flugelhorns. Consequently, its appeal may be limited, and only the most proficient trumpet ensembles will be able to perform it.

Despite this, the Ball State University Trumpet Ensemble, consisting mainly of freshman and sophomore players, premiered it in 2017 to near-standing ovation. No emergency personnel or first responders were needed during the performance, contrary to my initial concerns. I encourage you to take a chance on this work, and you might find yourself enjoying—or perhaps regretting—the experience.
