This is a neo-classical string quartet, such as the 3rd string quartet. It has 4 movements. The 1st movement is moderately fast and consists of a monothematic prelude and a fugue (on the same theme). The 2nd movement is expressive and slow and based upon two themes, a singing sarabande and a polyphonic solemn air. The 3rd movement is a lovely gavotte. The 4th movement (or finale) is in rondo form and has a fast gentle and somewhat solemn main theme with a running bassline. The fugue, the finale and the gavotte were (re)composed in 2023 and the piece is now definitive. It’s not too demanding for the players, and especially the slow movement will be moving for the audience, and certainly the gavotte will be fun to play and listen to. Digital performance using Sibelius 6 and Garritan Personal Orchestra. Score moving videos and play along videos are on my YouTube channel.
