This is the first movement of my second string quartet. I started on it in March 1999, and have been tinkering with it on and off for the last few years and have finally finished it (sadly, the other three movements aren't even close to finished).
As with all of my music, my goal is to emulate the late Classical style. In keeping with the style, I've tried to keep the quartet "conversational" in nature, with each instrument contributing on a nearly equal basis, and I think I've done a much better job of it in this quartet than I did in my first. This movement is in a fairly standard sonata form with a couple of key diversions that in Mozart's time might have been considered surprising, or at least mildly interesting. :-) Anyway, I hope you enjoy it.
(Note: If you have the bandwidth, please listen to the MP3 rather than the Sibelius playback. The MP3 is tweaked for a better "performance" though the solo string sounds leave a bit to be desired.)
