A school friend asked me to write this song way back in 1986 when we were 16 or so. The manuscript remained in a suitcase during the intervening years to be rediscovered when I moved house two years ago. My school’s Youth Theatre group are doing a production of Bill Forsyth’s stage play of ’Gregory’s Girl’ and I’m writing songs and incidental music for it using pastiche 1970s genres - punk, disco and a sloppy ballad. ’Start Anew’ seemed to fit the bill, so here it is.
