The Left hand plays four chords in this piece, a minor and g major, f major, and e major. When teaching this piece you can use colored pencils to circle the left hand chords for easy visual recognition. The eyes should generally be focused on the treble clef and not the bass clef. It is also important to emphasize the relationship between the a minor chord and the g major chord which contain no leading tone. The lowered seventh gives this song a characteristic folk music sound.
