The solo parts (soprano, tenor, bass) never sing at the same time as the ensemble until the very end. They sing either solos, duets, and in the final two songs, trios. The technique used for the cycle is the tintinnibuli of Arvo Part. This cycle is heavily influenced by Part's "Passio." Essentially, there are two voices, a melody line and a tintinnibuli line, which has only pitches of a triad, as seen in the opening line of the soprano.
