The verse of the choral version begins with the soprano taking the main tune with alto, tenor and bass each joining in on successive phrases. This strengthens the dynamics towards the crescendo on bar 27, ’God’s reign’. The tempo slows slightly on the final phrase, ’to lead the freedom dance’.
The third line of verse 6 may be rendered as ’We anoint you as king’ or ’as queen’ in relation to the gender of the candidate or ’with oil’.
