Song 760 The Vanquished

Onward we go in this sad row Trudging along all our days Far from my home is where I go If I should fall then I would die Such is the life of the vanquished So far away we go

I rue the day I took my place In this ragged band of brothers We struggle on there is no song I can sing to morn my mother We must walk so very long Life there is no other

Onward we go down this sad road The trail is marked with our dead Those who do fall are left by all To rot and decay where they lay What once was a person alive Now must just waste away

So Sad to say it is this way We have lost all our homeland So we walk on past dusk and dawn It is the only way we know Guided by the whip and chain Every day the same Our army was defeated Most are dead or have retreated

Onward we go where I don’t know The path I see is all a blur In valleys low and Ice and Snow We dare not ever stop walking Driven through this desolate land All things burned and pillaged

This is my place I lost the race A battle that raged on too long Nowhere to go but down the road Into a life of slavery All our past is now gone Because this life is bleak

We are dragged to a foreign land A motley and unsightly band

This is our life complete

Onward we go I feel so low I wonder why I try at all This I do know rest is a no I will forever be weary We’ve lost it all and it is gone Everything we did know
