Sonata for Violin and Piano number 2 entitled "VENGEANCE" was composed by Sevag Derghougassian in 2017 in memory of his teacher Yervand Yerkanyan and dedicated to the Romanian violinist Sorin Horlea.
It was performed and recorded on 19 October 2019 in the European University Cyprus (EUC) in Nicosia, Cyprus with an original 1857 Vuillaume violin.
The piano part was performed by the composer and the violin, by Sorin Horlea.
Part I. (Allegro ad Libitum, quasi cadenza)-(Allegro)-(Tempo primo)-(Adagio)[0'00"-3'54"]
Part II. "IMPROVISATION"(Andante quasi ad libitum)[3'54"-10'55"]
Part III. "CODA" (Allegro)[10'55"-12'20" ]
This is among Sevag's most tragic pieces, composed while contemplating stories of the 1915 Armenian Genocide. His great grandma Mima, while alive, told him stories of how she had survived as a child in the Ottoman empire, and how she was moved with her husband to Lebanon.
