Based in Paris (where he composed operas as well as several collections of flute music) his reputation extended throughout Europe. This sonata is one of a set of six published in Paris in 1740 for flute and basso continuo. The original key is B minor: this version in D minor makes it available to alto recorder players (though of course it can also be played by the flute in this key)
