Given the great range and depth of Haydns sonatas for solo piano it has always been a source of regret that he never wrote a sonata for two pianos. Here is my attempt to rectify this gap in the repertoire, written as a companion piece for Mozarts masterly two piano sonata, K. 448. Its taken from Haydns late String quartet in G, op. 77, no. 1 (which also exists as a violin or flute sonata). It lasts 18 minutes, its full of his characteristic energy with a wonderful contemplative adagio and Ive found it very enjoyable to play.
