Soli Deo Gloria is an original piece for wind band. As indicated by the title the piece is generally in praise of God. Specifically, it is based on impressions of the 21st chapter of Revelation.

In musical style it is rather pseudo medieval with a recurring pipe and tabor like section as well as a rather extended fugue. In form, it is basically a palindrome. There are solos for several instruments, most of which are cross cued with reference as to the preferred instrument.

Many of the cues are in the saxophones. In order to write for instruments some bands may not have, I given much of the cue/double responsibility to the saxes. But a well instrumented band with strong players in most sections might choose to leave out the saxes altogether and get a more symphonic wind sound.

I am deeply appreciative of David Hanon and the University of Central Oklahoma band for the premiere performance of this piece. The recording is of that performance.
