This is the sister piece to Solar I. It can be performed alongside Solar I or as an independent piece in its own right. Solar II, like its predecessor, has its roots firmly embedded in the rhythms of Jazz. It is a challenging work which exploits the full range of timbres available on the clarinet and the full compass of the instrument. There does need to be a certain elasticity to the performance of Solar II in terms of pulse, but the feeling must be of a clarinet playing after too much cafine (perhaps)! Have fun.
