The Music Instrumentation- textures blending instruments chosen more for the way they blend with the other instruments to produce different textures rather than using a standard classical orchestra hence no Trumpets and Violas (no offence intended!)
The music starts with just solo piano being very free; dancing on the top of harmonies the other instruments are implying. In a way the piano is the main feature of the piece but the harmonies and its direction are dictated by the other parts.
This is an introduction to a larger work, or works which will explore each and every theme, melody rhythmic pattern to make either one large orchestral score or a few smaller Theme of Variations. I havent quite decided as yet.
The Playback
I composed this score with the GPO Sibelius Edition sounds so the groupings of instruments and textures created are from the blending of 2 or more Kontakt samples i.e. bar 19 where the Horn, Cello and Violin are playing in unison to provide a soft, yet brassy sound.
There are many MIDI controllers hidden to give more precise direction to the playback. These include Controller 7 to bring the volume right down for the accented notes in the Cello bars 9 and 17. As the Reverb was being kept up by Kontakt at those points I had to decrease that as well with controller 23.
The French Horns eerie call in the last few bars is made by taking the volume right down, but as its the Kontakt Player the amount of reverb sounds the same, giving the impression that the Horn is off-stage. This may only be heard in the MP3 rather than the Scorch score.
