These six delightful short preludes were written for keyboard between 1717 and 1720 presumably as instructional pieces to teach his son the art of composition. They transcribe well for winds and can be played individually or as a set. Tempos and articulation often differ from the Czerny keyboard edition in order to provide a more convincing wind performance.
The clarinet part requires A clarinet for Prelude 5 but a part for Bb is included in case an A clarinet is not available.
In 1967, I arranged the first prelude for wind quintet, performed it a few times and then lost it in my music library. In 2021, I stumbled across the arrangement, found it to be as charming as ever and decided to score the remaining preludes to complete the set. I hope you will enjoy playing them as much as I have.
