Viadana is important in the development of the early Baroque technique of basso continuo, and its notational method, known as figured bas. He composed mostly sacred music. He also wrote some secular music, but the quantity is limited as may be expected from a member of a strict religious order. (Minor Observants) This sinfonia is an exempel of his secular music.
The 8 voices are divided in two choirs of four voices. The first choir is suitable for SATB-recorders, the second should be played on a keyboard instrument.
