The Silver Swan Rag is one of Joplin’s finest rags. He wrote it for piano but
published it only as a piano roll. This transcription for wind quintet captures
the restrained sophistication of the original and is sure to be a hit with audiences.
The tempo should be carefully noted to avoid playing the piece too fast. Each
of the instruments is featured and there are some tricky sections, but these are
well within the capabilities of intermediate players.
