In this arrangement of this popular piece originally from incidental music to Maeterlinck's play Pelleas et Melisande, the flute takes the main tune, accompanied by either the rest of the wind quintet plus cello, or by piano. The original is fluent and peaceful, quite chromatic and very French. Despite its popularity for arrangement, this is not an easy piece to arrange, and many different versions on Sibelius Music were consulted to put together this version. As with everything else I write, it is not beyond improvement, and is aimed at live performance rather than cyber-performance.
