This further motet from Andrea Gabrieli's Sacrae Cantiones, 1565 sets the familiar text from John 3, which is the Benedictus Antiphon at Lauds on the Monday after Pentecost (Whit-Monday). God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. The piece is in high clefs and is given here a minor third lower. Copies are of course available at other pitches: the 'correct' transposition would be a whole tone lower than here. The underlay is complete in the print and has required no editorial intervention.
