The 'Blind Mary' of the title was, apparently, another harper, a contemporary of Turlough Carolan, who taught the harp to the sons of one of Carolan's patrons, Charles O'Connor. It is a much loved tune among traditional musicians and various versions of it exist, all slightly different from that in Donal O'Sullivan's CAROLAN (London 1958). The Sarah and Cian to whom this is dedicated were Leader and Co-Leader of the Intermediate Orchestra at Cork School of Music and both are now pursuing successful chamber music careers.
