This piece was originally written in 1983 as a double reed quartet. For many years I have thought that it would work equally well on many groups of instruments within the same family, as one of the main ideas behind the original was homogeneity of sound. The somewhat enigmatic title refers to the fact that the material in the first movement was originally part of a two piano score for a student film that I wrote for a friend of mine while at Northwestern. I revisited this material yet again many years later in my Trio for piano and strings.
