This piece was initially conceived as an alternative minuet for my piano sonata No. 3. However, the mood didn't seem to fit that context, and the piece is in the wrong key for a sonata in C major. I am now releasing this as a stand-alone composition for string quartet, though this must not preclude possible development of a full string quartet in G minor in the future, time permiting. I do certainly intend to follow the progression sonata - string quartet - symphony, as a long-term ambition, if the steps of this progression appear successful.
