Johann Hermann Schein was a German musician from the early Baroque period. He was friends with Heinrich Schütz, another giant of the early 1600s. Although he had studied law, he found himself more interested in music and his talents were noted early on. He was not a healthy person and died at age 43 as a result of several ailments such as tuberculosis, gout, scurvy, and a kidney disorder. His music was in an Italian style although he had never left Germany.
