During the time I played the organs of the Cathedral of Mexico City, I wanted to adapt some church anthems for them, which I put for four voices. Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) had been very busy and harmonized 371 chorales and provided 69 chorale melodies with figured bass, among which appears the present one. But since I did not have this book available to me, I invented my own harmonizations, like this one in the Phrygian mode. Now, in 2013, I arranged it for Handbells, which, in a way, remind me of the beautiful carrillons of Dutch bell towers.
