It was adopted as the local anthem on December 6, 1985 by the local council and validated as the municipal anthem upon becoming a Dutch municipality on October 10, 2010[1]. Despite the official language being Dutch, English is widely spoken on the island, and the lyrics are in English. The first and fourth verses are most commonly sung.
