According to legend, this was the first piece that Carolan wrote. It was Squire Reynold who encouraged him to compose, since he was unimpressed by Carolan's playing. The title, pronounced Sheebeg Sheemore, in Irish, is named for the Little Hill of the Fairies and the Big Hill of the Fairies under which lived two supernatural warring tribes.
