It is set in Bethlehem in 1200 BC. Ruth and her mother-in-law Naomi return to Bethlehem. Ruth, a widow, gleans in the wheat fields and meets Perez, the overseer. He declares his love for her but she rejects him. Naomi wants Ruth to marry Boaz, the landowner, for whom Perez works. When Ruth unwillingly agrees to marry Boaz Perez attacks him. Boaz demonstrates his bravery and wisdom and Ruth falls in love with him.
