Ahh yes, just what the word needs right now to cure its woe's, yet another brass band arrangement of "Rule, Britannia! (When Britain first at heav'ns command. (A grand ode in honour of Great Britain). You know, if I was going to composer a patriotic song or theme or anthem for my country, this would be it! I mean, this is a GREAT PIECE!, as anthems go: this literally RULES!. So, here it is, my humble attempt and my very first arrangement for brass band. And I chose this wonderful work composed by Thomas Arne for Alfred, a 1740 masque about Alfred the Great, written by David Mallet and James Thomson to commemorate the accession of George I and the birthday of the Princess Augusta. I actually went to the Juilliard Library and found the original source for the Masque of Alfred and made this arrangement based on that score, so I tried to retain some "authenticity" and be true to the original as much as possible. That said, I took some liberties here and there and I hope this doesn't annoy anyone too much. Cheers! By the way, [I do believe this is the Enigma in Elgar's Variations!!]
