You are purchasing high quality sheet music PDF files suitable for printing or viewing on digital devices.I wrote this piece for the Swing Band at the school I am teaching in. The premise of the piece was to write try and write a bluesy piece which had:
a) lots of unisons in the melody so that if an instrument was missing it was covered b) it had a tune and blues inflections but was (relatively) straightforward to play c)it contained a lot of the concepts that the older pupils needed to know for their exams (12-bar blues/ blues scale/ unison/ ostinato or riff/ pedal notes etc).
To my ear it does sound very pastiche (can’t be sure if I haven’t heard some of it before, but if I have the steal was totally unintentional), but the kids are loving it as it is ’their’ piece, which is main thing. They also learnt who Jelly Roll Morin was due to the nom de plume that I chose… (a piece in scotland is a sandwich). If you are interested in trying the piece out, I can send you a copy of the score to edit your own parts (allows for adaptation for other instrumental groups)
