"You will draw water joyfully from the springs of salvation" is a great psalm verse to reference baptism. In most protestant denominations, it's taught that salvation comes when you're "born again". But the Catholic Church teaches that while conversion experiences are very important, (and represent sanctification), that the baptismal font literally is a spring of salvation that cleanses the baby (or catachumen) from the stain of original sin, bringing salvation to his/her soul. That salvation can be lost through mortal sin however, another difference between Protestant and Catholic theology. Most Protestants believe "once saved, always saved"; a tenet that the Catholic Church rejects.
