This one I originally set in A, but going up to the sus high D was too much of a strain for my limited cantoring range at 9:15 in the morning, so I transposed it to G.(It's more fun to play in A, in fact I'm sure I'm not the only pianist who loves to play in A: doesn't it fall under the fingers so naturally with those three sharps?!)But in G, the high note is a C. I'll never forget, one of my musical mentors, Don Henderson from Resurrection Church in Ellicott City, MD., once told me that when you write for the liturgy, try to keep the melody from "C to shining C!" And being that most of us aren't gifted tenors, nor are the people in the pews, I think Don is absolutely right. So if you are a gifted tenor, feel free to use the old tranpose button, which is one of the great advantages of Sibelius/Scorch!
By the way, a huge music store around Pennsylvania here, Menchey Music, is closing down their choral music sales department. In their "Inventory Liquidation" advertisement, they site competition from "internet sales outlets" as the primary reason for their closing that section of their store down. Isn't it great how websites like this one have evened the playing field for us?
