This first and third sections of this quartet should be played with swing rhythm, the middle section (the ragtime section) with no swing. Sibelius, however, plays the whole piece in swing so, if you like it that way, feel free to interpret as such. The bass clarinet part goes down to low C, in the absence of a low C, play an octave up. The motif which the bass has at the beginning is heard again and should be treated as a "leitmotiv" with a little emphasis when it occurs.
