This is a piece for mixed voices and two pianos, based on Psalm 137.
Ideally, it would be done as a concert piece, as I have found that parts of the text are rarely, if ever, discussed in a church setting. The
music starts off based on an old Jewish folk tune, which was set to the same text, and then goes from there. The voices start at four parts, and then divide, to as many as eight parts. My advice to the pianists would be, especially around bar #193, to break the pianos…
